海棠超薄挖箏是由台灣張鳳桐先生髮明之作，它是將傳統挖箏與海螺共振原理結合併研製出海棠古箏獨有的“繞樑之聲”技術，海棠挖箏與國內挖箏最大的區別在於薄，輕，便攜，因為有“繞樑之聲”的存在讓他在聲音上也別具一格，他的高音亮而不干，低音混而不糊，琴聲出來的空靈感彷彿置身於仙境一般，讓人沉醉其中。

传统的挖筝厚、重、不便携等多项缺点!。 更有一部分挖筝时间稍长，弦钉板处会出现松动，这两个问题一直存在，但一直没有被解决!关于厚不便携的解决方法及过程:

超薄挖筝一开始按照传统挖筝 技术，将原木13公分的厚度压缩为10公分左右，慢慢发现用传统手法 去挖还是达不到张凤桐先生理想的 厚度。
