If you are looking for a very comprehensive, beginner’s guide to playing the guzheng, “Guzheng Sessions Vol. 1” is definitely the book to get. I would say this is almost like what a textbook you would get in school about guzheng would be like, but not in a bad way. It covers a bit of everything from the history of the guzheng to the tuning and parts of a guzheng before getting into the lessons of how to play along with great beginner song selections. I would say this is the perfect beginner’s guzheng book for those who are really interested in all the details and nuances of the guzheng and playing it, whether you’re newly obsessed or even if you’re just getting back into things. It is written in both English and Simplified Chinese – neither of which gets in the way of the other – which is a nice bonus.
As an aside, I was actually sent this book by accident in place of another but wanted to keep it because of how good it is. The Guzheng Shop graciously let me keep it for free while still sending me the other book that I originally ordered.
